Young Harris, GA
Young Harris, Georgia is the smaller, sister town to Hiawassee located in Towns County. Only about a 8 minute drive west of Hiawassee this unique mountain valley setting is the home of 1,500 student Young Harris College. YHC is located along main street and sits at the base of Double Knobs mountain in one of the prettiest valley’s God ever made. Young Harris is a one stop light town and is home to the Brasstown Valley Lodge Golf and Spa Resort. Several beautiful communities are located in the Young Harris valley and the whole valley still retains an undeveloped, unspoiled virtue that dates back 75 years to the rural agrarian community it has been since settlers first entered the mountains. Young Harris has long been a desired place to leive as archeological evidence unearthed in the construction of Brasstown Resort showed evidence of Native American habitation for over 5,000 years. Young Harris is ideally geographically located between Blairsville and Hiawassee and only about 30 minutes up the road from Blue Ridge, Georgia, arguably the most famous North Georgia Tourist town.
The Young Harris Valley despite the presence of Brasstown Resort and YHC , is noticeably more rural once you leave the main through fare of Highway 76. The majority of farmland in Towns County is located in the Young Harris area and only a few subdivisions are located here.
Property values are basically equal to the Hiawassee and Hayesville, NC markets. Young Harris also benefits from being located in Towns County, Ga sporting one of the lowest property tax rates in the state.
In addition to the many recreational opportunities that the area has to offer and the proximity to the charms of Brasstown Valley Resort, Young Harris College offers a vibrant life open to the community to participate in. Sports, theatre, musical and artistic events typically see many local residents as spectators. The college also share some of their facilities with the surrounding community including hiking trails, gym facilities and dining areas.
